police detective was shot dead when he attempted toarrest two men who were attempting to steal a motorcycle in Kelapa Nunggal,Bogor on Friday.
The incident took place while 1st Brig. Nurul Afandi, a detective of the Batu Nunggal Police Station, was eating at a nearby food stand.
'He saw two men trying to steal a parked motorcycle,' spokesman for the West Java Provincial Police Sr. Comr. Martinus Sitompul said as quoted by tribunnews.com.
He said the detective became involved in an altercation with the two thieves after they resisted arrest. One of the thieves then brandished a gun and subsequently shot him dead.
He said a number of police officers have been deployed to track down the two perpetrators who fled the scene
