Comments: MUI Yogyakarta'€™s call to disband Shia

A request by the Yogyakarta branch of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) to the police to monitor, freeze or disband institutions or organizations whose members are adherents of Shia Islam has received criticism from a number of well-known individuals.

Your comments:

How do the Shia followers cause restlessness? Just by existing? Wow. Fascism is alive and well. It is to be hoped that the people will focus on the real issues that affect their lives.

The MUI and the religious affairs minister have one thing in common, they like persecuting the countrymen who do not worship as they do.

Shiites should try and get Shia Islam registered as a separate religion so as to not create further problems and confusion. Shia Islam has its own history that has little to do with Sunni Islam, therefore I applaud the MUI for bringing this issue to the public sphere because Shia proselytization is a big problem in Indonesia and elsewhere.

In Malaysia, Shia Islam is banned from the public arena and Shiites are not allowed to publicly spread their beliefs. This is a model Indonesia can use to ensure Shia Islam remains contained and does not create major problems in the future. This goes for Ahmadis and Qadiyanis too!

Sabour

The government must really dig to unearth these rocks under which the Ulema council members live.
