he Jambi city administration has proposed a budget of Rp 15 billion (US$1.25 million) to the government to refurbish the wholesalemarket, which is currently in a state of neglect.
Jambi Mayor Sy Fasha said that the administration itself had set aside Rp 4 billion from the city budget to renovate the wholesale market, which is located at Paal 10 and sits on 7 hectares of land.
For additional funds, the Jambi municipality has sent a proposal to the government for Rp 15 billion. The funds will be used to build facilities in the market.
With funds from the city administration and government, the market renovation is expected to completed this year.
'According to our plan, upon completion the market will be open to the public,' said Fasha.
Commodities from outside the province and outside Jambi city will be accommodated at the wholesale market first before being distributed to traditional markets across the city.
