isgraced former Democratic Party chairman AnasUrbaningrum denied all accusations leveled against him regarding his allegedroles in the Hambalang sports complex graft case during his first testimony aswitness during a hearing on Tuesday.
Standing before the court, Anas was questioned mainly about the allegation that he had accepted Rp 2.2 billion ($181,308) from state-owned construction company PT Adhi Karya to fund his campaign during the Democratic Party's convention in 2010, during which he was elected chairman.
'I never knew about, asked about or accepted [any money],' he said at the Jakarta Corruption Court in Kuningan, South Jakarta, when asked by the team of prosecutors about whether he had received the Rp 2.2 billion.
Anas then proceeded to deny the allegation that he was instrumental in helping the Youth and Sports Ministry secure the land permit for the Hambalang project.
National Land Agency (BPN) secretary Managam Manurung previously testified that House of Representatives' Commission II overseeing home affairs member Ignatius Mulyono of the Democratic Party told him that Anas had ordered him to process the issuance of the Hambalang land certificate in 2009.
According to the chief of financial and internal affairs at the Youth and Sports Ministry Deddy Kusinar's indictment, after Ignatius managed to obtain the certificate, he submitted it to Anas at the Democratic Party's faction room at the House.
Responding to the allegation, Anas said that it was not true. 'I never ordered Pak Ignatius to handle the Hambalang land certificate,' he said.
