Issue of the day: Air Force casts eyes on borders with Australia

J

an. 22, Online

The Air Force has programmed four of its air defense radars to closely monitor the southern border following the encroachment of at least one Australian naval ship into Indonesian waters to turn back asylum seeker boats.

'€œWe are concentrating on four radars in Timika, Merauke, Saumlaki and Buraen, which face Australia,'€ Air Force chief spokesman Air Commodore Hadi Tjajanto told The Jakarta Post over the phone on Wednesday.

Your comments:

The politicians and the press really just won'€™t let this one die down! Talk about running an election campaign through media hype and national pride.

The fact of the matter is that neither country is going to attack each other. And to suggest it is utter nonsense: Political ranting to garner votes by irresponsible politicians.

Canuk

How disgraceful of Indonesia to threaten Australia in that manner.

There must be an immediate apology by Yudhoyono to Tony Abbott.

I'€™m Australian. I am intrigued by the Air Commodore'€™s comment: '€œAustralia is reachable from there (Makassar).'€ Of course it is; Flankers have visited Darwin for joint exercises, so this is not new. He should know this.

Please, do come again and we will make the pilots a nice cup of tea, a snack in the mess and have a chat, we'€™ll even introduce you to our mutual American friends on the expanded bases in the Northern Territory.

The genuine ones that Indonesia negligently allowed to drown because of your corrupt officials taking bribes from the people smugglers who put them in rust-bucket boats are dead because of Indonesia'€™s negligence and perhaps even complicity.

Don'€™t hide behind the UN charter for refugees '€” Indonesia isn'€™t even a signatory to it. Let'€™s stop the silly talk and start a friendly discourse on the problem shall we?

It is sad to see our country now being derided for not recognizing the rights of asylum seekers. How the wheel has turned.

Barking dogs don'€™t bite. I think this barking dog has no teeth, so he can'€™t bite anyway.

Australia is more than capable of handling its own affairs and doesn'€™t need to be told by Indonesian legislators how to handle refugees. Basically Australia will decide who will enter and who won'€™t.

It'€™s good the Indonesian Navy now has southern patrols because they can tow back Indonesian boats after Australia has forced them to return.

So now you are threatening us? bring it on and the Australian government should cut all aid to Indonesia immediately.

Bring it on.
