Akil says Khofifah true winner of E. Java gov election: Lawyer

T

hrough his lawyer Otto Hasibuan, former Constitutional Court chief justice AkilMochtar has said that the true winner of the East Javagubernatorial elections was the Khofifah Indar Parawansa-Herman Sumawiredja ticket, and not Soekarwo-Syaifullah Yusuf.

'€œSomeone must have changed the ruling at the last minute. According to Akil, the panel had agreed to rule in favor of Khofifah but then a week after that, the same panel, minus Akil, ruled out Soekarwo as elected governor,'€ Otto said on Wednesday.

Therefore, he went on, he had been asked by Akil to seek clarification from the Constitutional Court on this issue. Otto expected the Constitutional Court would quickly respond to this issue in order to maintain public trust, or what was left of it.

'€œThe court should initiate an enquiry in this matter. It could start by looking at the summary of the panel'€™s meeting dated Oct. 2, which recorded the panel'€™s consensus to rule in favor of Khofifah,'€ he said.

Constitutional Court chief justice Hamdan Zoelva did not answer phone calls and text messages asking about Akil'€™s allegation.

The Soekarwo-Syaifullah Yusuf ticket won a second term as East Java governor and deputy governor by securing 47.25 percent, defeating the closest contender, the Khofifah-Herman ticket, which secured 37.62 percent of the vote.
