The authorities announced late on Saturday evening that they have identified the remaining six victims when Mount Sinabung in Karo regency, North Sumatra, spewed ash again on Saturday.
The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) identified the six victims as Daniel Siagian, student from Southeast Aceh; Julpiandi Mori, 21, and Asran Lubis, 21, both from Kuta Cane, Aceh; Tomas Lakae, 27 from Medan; Vitriani Napitupulu; and Marudut Barisan Sihite, student.
Earlier, BNPB has identified eight victims as Alexander Sembiring, student; Daud Surbakti, 17, student; David, 17, student; Dipa Nusantara, 17, student; Mahal Sembiring, 25, elementary school teacher; Rizal Sahputera, 23, journalist; Santun Siregar, 25, university student; and Teken Sembiring, 47.
The bodies of the 14 fatalities have all been transported from a number of areas in Suka Meriah village, which is located within a 3-kilometer radius of the volcano, Mt. Sinabung Eruption Media Center head Jhonson Tarigan told The Jakarta Post.
The authorities have set a no-go zone of at between five kilometers and seven kilometers from Mt. Sinabung crater. The victims were reportedly wanted to see the crater from a closer range after reduced volcanic activities in the past week.
Three other people were injured people. Sehat Sembiring, 48; Surya Sembiring, 21; and Doni Milala, 60, were believed to have been visiting a family grave and their abandoned homes when the volcano spewed its ash. (nvn)
