Comments: Australia says no '€˜stepping back'€™

J

an. 25, Online/AFP

Australia said Friday that asylum seeker arrivals had dropped to their lowest level in almost five years and there would be no '€œstepping back'€ from its hard-line policy, despite tensions with Jakarta. Canberra'€™s military-run Operation Sovereign Borders policy, which sees asylum seeker boats turned back when it is safe to do so, has angered Indonesia due to several incursions, despite an official apology.

Your comments:

The article'€™s like an afterthought, and calmly goes through the official Australian apology and assurances without even bothering to hint at their logical absurdities.

And the reference to an official Indonesian protest at the violation is just pedestrian. No '€œfanning of aggressive rhetoric'€, nothing '€œinflammatory'€, and not even a whiff of '€œjingoism'€.
The Indonesian public appears very bored with the whole carry-on and the movie sequel.

So why has the Australian media so misrepresented this issue? Is it deliberate and calculated conditioning of the Australian public?

Indonesia is deploying ships to areas smugglers use, so now Indonesia can now respond to sinking boats where in the past so many have drowned and Indonesian ships can now enforce Indonesian laws regarding smuggling and immigration.

In Indonesia, smuggling people to Australia is a crime and courts can impose up to 15 years imprisonment and, due to that, the National Police and Indonesian Navy should not allow smugglers'€™ boats to get to Australia.

The Indonesian crew on board are even smuggling and working for the smuggling syndicate; at least they should be stopped and questioned.
