hairman of the Tangerang legislativecouncil, Amran Arifin, paid a visit to soap company PT Sinar Antjol to find outabout the unilateral dismissal of 347 workers by the company.
During the visit on Tuesday, the chief councilor held a dialogue with the management and representatives of the dismissed workers to seek a win-win solution in the industrial dispute at the company.
'We want to see directly the real conditions of the company and to get first-hand information on the industrial problems the company is facing,' he said, adding that he visited the factory after receiving an official complaint from workers who protested against the dismissals.
The company's human resources manager M. Taha Musa denied the company had infringed the gubernatorial decree on minimum wages in the province. He also declined to explain why the mass dismissal was conducted.
'The management has broken no rules and we did ask the dismissed workers to come back to work,' he said, adding that company officials had been abused when they visited the workers at their homes to ask them to return to work. Workers said the dismissals breached the collective labor agreement in which the management had agreed not to take unilateral actions that affected the workers' economic livelihood.
Taha vowed to persuade all dismissed workers to go back to work.
