olkar Party politician Muhammad Misbakhun said he was sorry Twitter celebrity Benny 'Benhan' Handoko had been foundguilty of libel charges he had filed against him.
'I had to go with the legal process because he refused to retract tweets that contained libelous material about me,' Misbakhun, former Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) politician, said in a press release sent to The Jakarta Post Tuesday.
Misbakhun said hopefully this case would serve as a reminder to others to not post opinions without concrete evidence.
'Don't misuse the freedom of expression by posting statements that could hurt others,' he said.
Benny Handoko was recently slapped with a six-month prison sentence with a probation period of a year, meaning that if he reoffended in the first six months he would be sent straight to jail.
Benhan had taken to the social network and lambasted Misbakhun, referring to him as one of the Bank Century robbers. Misbakhun demanded Benhan retract his statements but the latter refused to do so, which led to the filing of defamation charges.(dic)
