The associations, grouped under the Confederation of ASEAN Journalists (CAJ), are expected to present views and experiences in each respective nation during the three-day event, titled '€œBringing ASEAN closer to the people'€™s hearts and minds'€.

'€œRegarding the importance of the media'€™s roles, this program is expected to contribute to the preparation of the stakeholders of the 2015 ASEAN Community,'€ the CAJ said in a statement.

Speakers to be featured in the event include South Sumatra Governor Alex Noerdin and Coordinating Political, Legal and Security Affairs Djoko Suyanto, and CAJ permanent secretary Akhmad Kusaeni.

Top journalists from Timor Leste, which has been vying for ASEAN membership, have also been invited to attend the event, according to the release.

Some senior journalists will appear in discussions including The Jakarta Post'€™s senior editor and former Indonesian ambassador to Australia Sabam Siagian.

Other activities in the program'€™s agenda include journalism workshops and an exhibition of '€œIndonesia'€™s press from era to era.'€

To wrap up the event, participants will be invited to observe the site for the CAJ Education and Training (CAJET) Center project which will be constructed in Palembang.

The establishment of the CAJET was initiated by the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) and was proposed during the CAJ general assembly in Manila in November, last year.

The CAJ was established on March 11, 1975, by journalist associations of then ASEAN member states.
