Police hold back on dismissing Sitorus

T

he police will not sack chief Brig. Labora Sitorus '€”who was sentenced to two years in jail on Monday for illegal logging and fuelstockpiling '€”  until his permanent legalstatus is decided, a police chief said Tuesday.

'€œBut before that permanent legal status was decided, he [Sitorus] may tender his own resignation,'€ Papua Police chief Insp. Gen. Tito Karnavian said.

Besides two years in jail, the court also fined him Rp 50 million (US$4,200).

Sitorus, in June last year, made headlines when the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (PPATK) reported suspicious transactions of  Rp 1.5 trillion in his name. Prosecutors had originally demanded 15 years in prison and a fine of Rp 100 million for Sitorus. They appealed the court'€™s decision
