More legislative and presidential candidates are "buying" followers on social media platforms ahead of the April 9 legislative election and July 9 presidential election as they take their campaign to the Internet
ore legislative and presidential candidates are "buying" followers on social media platforms ahead of the April 9 legislative election and July 9 presidential election as they take their campaign to the Internet.
Politicalwave.com director Yose Rizal said that having lots of followers added prestige and recognition to a political campaign.
He said that his team had discovered candidates were paying companies around Rp 100,000 per 100,000 Twitter followers.
He said the price was cheap because the followers weren't real.
"Be careful, the followers for sale are fake, or the accounts are from foreign countries," Yose told kompas.com on Saturday.
"Thus, legislative and presidential candidates should not be deluded by the promise of having more followers, because they have no use for their campaign," he said.(put)
