aritime Affairs and Fisheries Ministry (KKP) strives to tap abundant power generation resources by utilizing wind and solar systems in a bid to provide electricity supply in remote areas across the country.
A solar and wind power generation pilot project will be built in Pandansimo beach in Bantul, Yogyakarta, with a designed capacity of 100 KW.
"If the program is successful in Bantul, KKP plans to apply it in other remote areas too," Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Sharif Cicip Sutardjo said on Sunday as quoted by tribunnews.com.
Sharif explained that renewable technology application is needed in Indonesia, because as an archipelagic country, its remote areas, including outer islands, need easily accessible power plants.
The minister further said that the application of such technology is expected to help boost local economic development, especially fisheries. (atw)
