Teenagers lambasted on social media for alleged murder

T

he suspected murderers ofAde Sara Angelina Suroto, 19, were publicly condemned after expressing theircondolences on social media when word of her passing spread on Wednesday.

The public lambasted the two suspects, Ahmad Imam Al Hafitd, 19, and his girlfriend Assyifa Ramadhani, 19, on social media site Twitter for their tweets expressing condolences on the day Sara was found dead by the side of a toll road.

Hundreds of tweets mentioned both suspects'€™ Twitter identities, castigating and calling them out for acting innocently online.

The two were arrested separately on Thursday after detectives suspected Hafitd had concealed bite marks on his hand. After being pressed for details, Hafitd admitted to murdering Sara and implicated Assyifa as his accomplice.

'€œIn the end, he confessed that the bite marks were caused by the murder victim,'€ said Jakarta Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Rikwanto, as quoted by tribunnews.com on Friday.

Rikwanto added that the victim was suffocated after an electrical shock device had been used on her.

Meanwhile, the mother of the murder victim, Elisabeth Diana, was forgiving of her daughter'€™s alleged killers when she spoke after Sara'€™s funeral in Pondok Kelapa cemetery, in East Jakarta, on Friday.

'€œI'€™m sure that deep down, they are good kids. They just weren'€™t able to control themselves,'€ said Elisabeth when asked about the suspected murderers.

Elisabeth added that she had regarded Hafitd as one of her own children, and that both suspects would be redeemed after their prison sentences, if found guilty.

The suspects may be charged under Article 340 of the Criminal Code on premeditated murder, and could face a minimum jail sentence of 20 years or the death penalty. (tjs)
