35 children injured in Bekasi bus collision

hirty-five passengers, all children, sustained injuries as a result of acollision between an inter-provincial bus belonging to the Haryanto bus companyand a train serving the Jakarta-Semarang route at the Wanasari crossing gate inBekasi.
'The bus was carrying 35 children who were coming from a charity event in Jakarta.' Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Rikwanto said on Saturday as quoted by tribunnews.com.
He said the bus driver had fled the scene but the driver's assistant was held for questioning.
Twenty-two victims were taken to the Bekasi Regional Hospital and the rest were treated at other hospitals.
'Four of the victims are in a critical condition and have been transferred to the Cibitung Regional Hospital,' State railway company (PT KAI) spokesman Asep Komaruddin said.
According to the witnesses, the bus ignored the closing gate at the crossing.
The police are investigating the incident.(dic)
