Bandung Mayor Muhammad Ridwan Kamil has criticized the police over what he deemed as the excessive implementation of the curfew on nightspots
andung Mayor Muhammad Ridwan Kamil has criticizedthe police over what he deemed as the excessive implementation of the curfew onnightspots. He said the police had previously promised that they would onlytarget nightclubs, but restaurants and cafes were also being forced to close atmidnight.
'The police promised earlier to only limit nightspots' operational hours to 12 p.m. from the previous 3 a.m., so why are they shutting restaurants and cafés as well?' he said as quoted by tempo.co on Tuesday.
He said he had received complaints from residents, which he had promised he would forward to the police.
'The police should act appropriately,' he said.
The police earlier proposed reducing the operational hours of nightspots in Bandung to restore order after an increase in law violations by motorbike gangs.
One hundred and forty-eight violations have been recorded. The police claim that the curfew has reduced the crime rate in the city. However, the curfew has restricted the activities of people who enjoy eating out late or sitting over coffee in the early hours.
Ridwan earlier said that all relevant stakeholders should sit down and talk over the issue.(dic)
