rade MinisterMuhammad Lutfi says he is optimistic that his ministry will soon be able to finishdeliberations on the implementation regulations regarding online-based tradetransactions, or e-commerce, which have been regulated under the Trade Law.
'The implementation regulations will be in the form of a government regulation and will be followed by a ministerial decree. We are optimistic that we will finish them soon,' Lutfi said on Wednesday, as quoted by Antara news agency.
Lutfi said the regulations were pivotal given the growing demand for online-based trade transactions.
"The growth is 300 percent faster than regular transactions using cash and the regulations have now become crucial," he said.
He said online transactions should be well-regulated because a huge number of consumers needed to be protected.
"Creating the regulations has become a priority for the Trade Ministry," he added.
Previously, the Indonesian Employers Association (Apindo) said that most of those
involved in e-commerce in Indonesia did not pay taxes on the transactions, even
though the transactions were worth Rp 100 trillion (US$ 8.8 billion) a
year. (nfo/dic)
