em>Your comments on the official appointment of Jakarta Governor Joko '€œJokowi'€ Widodo by the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) as the party'€™s presidential candidate '€“ a move that is believed will help the party'€™s performance in the legislative election:

There are two things of concern here. First, Jokowi'€™s candidacy means he will abandon Jakarta as he did once in Surakarta. We'€™ve seen a broken vow here.

Secondly, based on the regulation, Jakarta Deputy Governor Basuki '€œAhok'€ Tjahaja Purnama Ahok will take Jokowi'€™s place and that means he will be the first Chinese-Indonesian to be Jakarta'€™s governor in modern Indonesian history.

The late former president Abdurrahman '€œGus Dur'€ Wahid would love this, but are Indonesians ready for it yet? Or are they ready for another racist riot?

The PDI-P'€™s nomination of Jokowi is strategic and will certainly help the party'€™s performance in the legislative election.

This is the chance for the PDI-P to show people how well it can serve the people.

Lead the people toward the prosperity they crave.

Be sincere when planning the construction and improvement of the infrastructure we need so badly.

Realize that improving people'€™s lives is a concrete investment, for the nation will not only gain healthy and happy people but healthy and happy taxpayers, improving the nation'€™s capabilities to fulfill its obligations.

Allow no more parents to be poor to the extent they are unable to send their children to school, so these children will not be able to become strong, legitimate taxpayers. These children should be educated at all costs for they are the cream of the nation.

Indonesia with its Pancasila philosophy and national motto of Bhineka Tunggal Ika (Unity in Diversity) in the hands of good leaders will unite our large and prosperous archipelago which, when well managed, will provide an economic umbrella not only for our large population, but eventually for ASEAN too, leading us to the desired ASEAN Economic Community (AEC).

With good and qualified leaders, together we will be able to reach our goal of being a just and prosperous nation.

In a democratic country all the parties have the right to appoint a presidential candidate.

If Jokowi is elected, I'€™m afraid the real president will be PDI-P chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri.

Whatever happens, the show must go on and may God bless this country.

He has yet to make significant inroads with regard to any of Jakarta'€™s chronic problems, but seems to have convinced many that he has: The power of carefully-crafted public relations. It'€™s worth remembering the hype and excitement back in 2004 over SBY. Look how that turned out!

At least Jokowi has a personality; appears to do what he says he will do; dislikes inefficiency and corruption and doesn'€™t spend his entire life in his office. That has got to be an improvement!
