"Asidefrom endangering their lives, their activities are also affecting motorists.Batu city is a tourist destination [...] I urge residents to stop suchactivities," Eddy said in Malang on Tuesday as quoted by Antara news agency.
He saidthe Batu administration had increased mourning funds to Rp 2 million (US$176.41) from Rp 1 million last year and the increase had been disseminated to neighborhoodand community unit heads.
Hereiterated that their activities affected the beauty of the city. "It'sbetter for them to make a proposal to the city administration to request fundsfor building places of worship rather than begging. The administrationwill surely help them," he said.
Byasking for funds from the administration, Eddy hoped the begging activities wouldcease. (meh)
