The parade, known as Gendang Belek, a traditional gamelan music performance from Lombok, was immediately halted. The performers, whowore traditional attire with yellow flashes, Golkar's color, soughtshelter to protect their instruments from the downpour.
Most of the audience in front of the main stage, totaling around 2,000 people, remained at Sangkareang field to listen to Aburizal's speech.Dozens of children were also seen, while their parentsenthusiastically chanted "Golkar" and "Aburizal".
In his speech, Aburizal repeated Golkar's pledges to provide 12 years of free education, and easier loanaccess with low interest for small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
Mataram is Aburizal's second stop in his five-day Eastern Indonesia tour, whichmarks the final leg of his campaigning before the campaign season ends on April 5. Later on Wednesday,he and his entourage left for Kupang in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).
