wenty-two women legislative candidates and three male candidates have signed a '€œpolitical contract'€ with representatives from a local election watchdog, the Gemawan Institute, to show their commitment to protecting the rights and forwarding the interests of women in the province.

'€œSixteen of the 29 women legislative candidates invited from Pontianak city have signed the political contract, followed by six other women candidates and three male candidates from Sambas regency. The contract is not legally binding, but we would urge them not to forget their joint commitment,'€ Gemawan Institute director Lely Khainur told The Jakarta Post on Thursday.

She added that the political contract would be used as a reminder for them if and when they were elected. '€” JP/Severianus Endi
