tate owned electricity company PT PLN has teamed up withthree Chinese companies ' Technology Intern Shijiazhuang Enric Gas EquipmentCo. Ltd, Ocean Engineering Design & Research Institute of CIMC and PTEnviromate Technology International Cui Li ' to develop marine transportation ofcompressed natural gas (CNG) in Indonesia.
The marine CNG transportation project, which will transport CNG from Gresik, East Java to Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, via a CNG vessel, is the first project of its kind in the world.
PLN and the three firms signed engineering, procurement, construction, installation (EPCI) and operation and maintenance (O&M) agreements in Jakarta on Tuesday as reported by tribunnews.com.
The EPCI contract is worth US$132 million and Rp 125 billion ($10.87 million) while the O&M contract is worth $4 million and Rp 45 billion.
The consortium will set up gas compression facilities in Gresik and Lombok for 12 months and 24 months, respectively.
The Chinese companies will manage the CNG vessel, with a capacity of 20 million standard cubic feet (mmscf), for 24 months as well as conduct the operation and maintenance of the three facilities for three years.
Gas supply of 5 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd) will be used to fire a power plant generating 90 megawatts of electricity, which will be operational for four to five hours during peak hours on Lombok island. (nfo/nvn)
