iau Police have arrested three Indonesians and two Malaysians for allegedly trading 1.5 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine and 1,750 ecstasy pills worth more than Rp 2.4 billion (US$209,900). The police also seized an FN pistol from a suspect.
Riau Police chief Brig. Gen. Condro Kirono said on Wednesday that the five suspects were arrested separately on Monday and Tuesday in Pekanbaru. Riau Police's drug division officers first arrested a drug dealer, identified as DA, who led them to two more dealers identified as YD and HN.
'HN was nabbed with two Malaysians, YKC and CKS. The two foreigners arrived in Pekanbaru a week ago,' Condro said, adding that the Malaysians had arrived by plane.
'Both of them confessed that they had only been smuggling drugs into Pekanbaru for three months. But according to our database, they were on our most-wanted list.' Condro confirmed that the two Malaysians were allegedly part of an international drug ring. 'We are aiming to target the big fish and find out how the drugs were smuggled into Riau,' he added.
The suspects will be charged under the 2009 Narcotics Law, which carries a maximum punishment of 4 years' imprisonment.
