undreds of high school and vocation school students celebrated Earth Day and the 100th anniversary of Bogor Botanical Gardens by participating in environmental preservation projects on Wednesday.
The projects included a Melati Anting tree planting program and the nursing of various seedlings.
Bogor Botanical Gardens spokesman Sugiarti said the event, organized by the National Institute of Science's (LIPI) center for plant conservation, aimed to encourage students to learn about nature and for them to develop an interest in helping to preserving it.
Sugiarti said one of the projects was introducing the 100-year-old Raja tree.
'The Raja tree, planted in 1914, is a protected species in Borneo as bees, whose honey is very useful for local people, use its branches to build their nests,' he said.
