ank Indonesia (BI) predicts 0.08 percent to 0.1 percent inflation may occur in April, BI Governor Agus Martowardojo said in Jakarta on Monday.
Agus said that the lowering price of staple food items had contributed to deflation.
"Deflation is a consistent condition. We see that chili and rice contributes a lot to the deflation," Agus said at BI Building in Jakarta on Monday as quoted by kontan.co.id.
He said that the deflation could be seen from a survey conducted by the central bank from the first day of April to the second week of April.
He said yearly inflation on April 2014 could decrease to around 7.18 percent from 7.32 percent in the previous month.
"In general, we have to maintain tight monetary policies to make sure inflation stays at 4.5 percent, plus or minus 1 percent, by the end of 2014 to help ensure a healthy current account," he continued. (nfo)
