Hatta says he is '€˜stepped over'€™ in BTN acquisition case

C

oordinating Economic Minister Hatta Rajasa claims that he has never received any report on the planned acquisition of state-lender Bank Tabungan Negara (BTN) by another state-owned lender, Bank Mandiri.

He said reports on the corporation action should have been sent to his ministry.

'€œI'€™ve not received any report. I should have got the report,'€ Hatta said at Bank Indonesia headquarters on Monday as quoted by kompas.com.

Hatta said the BTN acquisition plan could be categorized as a privatization. In such privatization, the Coordinating Economic Minister was head of the privatization team's coordination team.

'€œBefore an initial public offering [IPO] takes place, for instance, all aspects, such as financial-related matters, will have to be discussed first,'€ said Hatta.

He further said there had been no discussion regarding the acquisition plan so his ministry had not scrutinized the plan.

'€œI will see it later. Based on the ideal mechanism, the State-Owned Enterprises Ministry must coordinate with my ministry. I will ask Pak Dahlan [State-Owned Enterprises Minister Dahlan Iskan] about this issue because I knew this acquisition plan from media,'€ said Hatta. (ebf)
