'I'd rather be DKI 1': Ahok

A

s calls mount for Deputy Jakarta Governor Basuki '€œAhok'€ Tjahaja Purnama to be Joko "Jokowi" Widodo'€™s running mate, he says he would prefer the Jakarta governor roll.

'€œDefinitely, I'€™d rather be '€˜DKI 1'€™ [Jakarta governor]. That'€™s all,'€ he said at City Hall on Monday, as quoted by kompas.com.

Ahok further asserted that he would not be the running mate of either Jokowi or any other would-be presidential candidates. He said he would continue to solve problems in the capital city for his five-year term.

Ahok went on to say that any decisions allowing him to step into a competition in the national level were in the hands of the Gerindra Party chief Prabowo Subianto.

'€œGerindra's directives are clear : I have to help make Pak Jokowi be successful as Jakarta governor and resolve problems in Jakarta. There were no other directives,'€ said Ahok.

The former East Belitung regent also played down rumors saying that Gerindra and Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), the two parties that nominated candidate pair Jokowi-Ahok during the Jakarta gubernatorial election in 2012, were add odds. He said relations between the two parties were still good.

Earlier, PDI-P central executive board chairman Maruarar Sirait said Ahok could be a potential vice presidential candidate with Jokowi in the 2014 presidential election.

Other candidates are former Constitutional Court chief justice Mahfud MD, Corruption Eradication Commission chairman Abraham Samad, Coordinating Economic Minister Hatta Rajasa, former Army chief of staff Gen.(Ret.) Ryamizard Ryacudu and Indonesian Military commander Gen. Moeldoko. (ebf)
