he Jakarta Small and Medium Enterprises Cooperatives Agency (KUMKMP) is planning to relocate street vendors trading in the former IRTI (Indonesian Restaurants and Parks Association) field within the National Monument (Monas) area in Central Jakarta to the east of the monument.
KUMKMP Central Jakarta head Sri Indrastuti said her office was currently building a temporary vendor area near the deer enclosure in Monas.
'The plan is to relocate vendors from the former IRTI field to an area on the monument's east side,' she said as quoted by tribunnews.com on Sunday.
Sri added that for the next seven days, street vendors would not be allowed to trade until the temporary vendor area is constructed. Her office was currently disseminating information about the move to the vendors.
'Our office plans to build a food court in the IRTI field, which will be separate from the souvenir area,' she said.
Sri said that she was concerned about the lack of separate zones for food and souvenir vendors.
There are currently 329 food and souvenir vendors trading at the IRTI field. The vendors' relocation is being funded by beverage company PT Sosro through the corporate social responsibility (CSR) program.
