T Masaro Radiokom executive director Anggoro Widjojo is standing trial over the allegation of that he bribed lawmakers and Forestry Ministry officials during 2006-2008, with the money allegedly given to secure his position as sole provider in an integrated radio communication system project.

'€œThe defendant gave Rp 210 million, SGD$92,000, US$ 20,000, Rp 925 million and two elevators to civil servants,'€ KPK prosecutor Riono told a hearing held at the Jakarta Corruption Court on Wednesday.

Riono said the bribes were given to then forestry minister M.S. Kaban, the House of Representatives'€™ forestry commission chief Jusuf Erwin Faishal, Forestry Ministry secretary-general Boen Mochtar Poernama and several other officials.

The bribes were given so the House'€™s forestry commission would recommend the Forestry Ministry to continue the project, which was worth Rp 180 billion, with Anggoro as the sole provider.

Anggoro Widjojo has been targeted by the KPK since 2009. He was arrested in Shenzen, China by local authorities as he attempted to flee.

He was then brought home to stand trial by a joint team comprising officials from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and the Immigration directorate-general.

His sibling, Anggodo Widjojo, was sentenced to 10 years in prison and fined Rp 250 million as he was found guilty of attempting to bribe KPK investigators to cancel the investigation of Anggoro. (dic)
