Another JIS kindergarten student files report, says commission

T

he Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) says it has received one more report from an alleged victim of sexual assault at the Jakarta International School (JIS).

'€œWe have just received a report with new allegations of sexual abuse at JIS. The alleged victim is a friend of the 6-year-old kindergarten student who previously reported he had been sexually assaulted at the school,'€ KPAI secretary-general Erlinda said in Jakarta on Wednesday, as quoted by kompas.com.

She said the KPAI would be providing legal assistance, therapy and psychological treatment for the second victim. It would also cooperate with the National Police in investigating the case.

'€œWe will be asking for photos of another JIS employee because, according to reports from the victim'€™s family, besides the two suspects that have been arrested by the police, there is another perpetrator,'€ Erlinda said.

She added that the victim'€™s mother was an Indonesian, while the father was an expatriate, but she declined to reveal his nationality.

'€œWe have also referred both victim and the family to the Witness and Victims Protection Agency (LPSK) to seek protection. We will also help them report the case to the police because the victim'€™s family has not yet dared to do so,'€ she said.

As previously reported, a 6-year-old kindergarten was allegedly sexually assaulted by cleaners in one of the school's restrooms. The police are still investigating the case, which in addition to a permit issue, prompted the Education an Culture Ministry to close the kindergarten. (idb/ebf)
