he Semarang Corruption Court has sentenced its former judge Asmadinata to five years in prison and a fine of Rp 200 million (US$17,359) or an additional three months in prison after being convicted in a corruption case.
'The defendant has been legally and convincingly proven to have committed bribery jointly,' presiding judge Dwiarso Budi Santiarto said, reading out the verdict on Tuesday.
The sentence was more lenient than demanded by Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) prosecutors, who sought 11 years behind bars and Rp 200 million in fines.
Asmadinata was found guilty of being involved in bribery amounting to Rp 150 million in a corruption case relating to an official car maintenance fund of the Grobogan Regency Legislative Council secretariat in 2006-2007, which was worth Rp 1.9 billion.
