Jakarta Deputy Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama has threatened to shut down nightclubs that allow visitors to carry drugs onto their premises
akarta Deputy Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama has threatened to shut down nightclubs that allow visitors to carry drugs onto their premises.
He said nightclub owners should support the government's fight against drugs by forbidding the distribution of unlawful substances.
'Nightclubs are often used as places to pass drugs around. Therefore, we ask all club owners to strictly monitor their establishments,' Basuki was quoted as saying by kompas.com on Wednesday.
Basuki said he had discussed the matter with National Police crime division chief Comr. Gen. Suhardi Alius, adding that they had agreed that if a nightclub was discovered for a second time letting guests take drugs in, then the club's license would be revoked.
'If narcotics are found [on a club's premises] a second time, we will directly shut it down by revoking the permit,' Ahok said.
According to data released by the National Narcotics Agency (BNN), 207 clubbers were caught using narcotics in 2013. BNN acquired the number from holding 32 raids at 24 nightclubs in the capital. (put)
