tate elementary school SDN Guwa-Guwa in the Sumenep Islands, East Java, has been temporarily sealed by the authorities due to many teachers being absent from their duties for long periods.
After heading home, many teachers only return to their schools between three and seven months later, tribunnews.com reported.
Muhammad Suhaidi of the Sumenep Regency Education Council admitted to the absences of teachers on Tuesday, saying that such a habit was nothing new in Sumenep.
"The long absences of teachers has led to the closure of Guwa-Guwa state elementary school in Ra'as district," Suhaidi said, adding that the teachers only considered teaching on the islands as a side job. The teachers also work as civil servants on the islands
Sumenep Education Office manpower unit head Fajarisman declined to comment on the issue.
"Please ask for confirmation from the head of the education office," he said. (yln)
