n unemployed man, Setio Haryadi, 24, claims he stabbed a taxi driver, identified as Muhtadin, 49, to death on Tuesday because he had no money left.
'I went to Jakarta to look for a job but I was running out of money on the fourth day, so I tried to rob a taxi driver,' Setio quoted by tempo.co as saying on Tuesday.
He said that he flagged down Muhtadin's taxi at Pulogadung terminal in East Jakarta and asked him to drive him to his friend's house in Duren Sawit.
Setio said that he threatened Muhtadin by pointing a knife at the driver's throat when the taxi arrived at Klender Bridge in East Jakarta. Muhtadin then pulled his taxi over.
'Because he refused to give me money, I stabbed him once,' he said, adding that after being stabbed once, Muhtadin gave him the money.
Setio said that after Muhtadin gave him the money, Muhtadin tried to fight him. 'I stabbed him several times because he tried to fight me,' he said, adding that he tried to flee from the scene after he killed Muhtadin.
Bait, a witness to the crime, said that he, along with other bystanders, immediately pursued and caught Setio after they heard cries for help.
Duren Sawit police are now handling the case.
