witness in the graft trial of former Foreign Ministry secretary-general Sudjadnan Parnohadiningrat said that no bidding had taken place in projects for the convening of international conferences between 2004 and 2005.
Deputy director of PT Pactoconvex Niagatama, I Ketut Salam, said that winners in all projects for international conferences during the period had been directly appointed.
'Investigators showed me some documents from the project showing that tenders had taken place. I told them that the documents made it seem as if tenders had taken place. What had actually taken place were direct appointments,' Ketut said in his testimony as quoted by tribunnews, com.
Ketut said that he did not have time to scrutinize the documents and signed them immediately.
Sudjadnan was declared a graft suspect in relation to the organizing of international conferences in 2004 and 2005, which resulted in Rp 18 billion (US$1.47 million) in state losses. Sudjadnan has denied that he and his superior, former foreign minister Hassan Wirajuda, accepted illegal payments from international conferences arranged by the ministry.
