JAKARTA: Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Sharif Cicip Sutardjo says the government will collaborate with the Netherlands to better promote Indonesian fish and reduce harmful fishing practices
AKARTA: Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Sharif Cicip Sutardjo says the government will collaborate with the Netherlands to better promote Indonesian fish and reduce harmful fishing practices.
'The program, which is called the Project for Fisheries and Aquaculture for Food Security in Indonesia, will run for three years, from 2014 through 2016,' Cicip was reported by Antara as saying in Jakarta on Wednesday.
The ¤4.5 million (US$6.21 million) program would be managed by the Wageningen University's Center for Development and Innovation (CDI), he said. The program is expected to help increase the supply of fish, access to fish products, improve the quality and standard of fish-handling in domestic ports and reduce harmful fishing practices.
He added that Asia contributed 67 percent to the world's total fish production in 2011.
