he Senen Market in Central Jakarta was gutted by a fire on Friday morning. The blaze broke out at 4:20 a.m. in Blok-3 of the market building and destroyed several kiosks, according to tempo.co.
At least 33 fire engines were deployed to extinguish the fire, which burned for several hours.
According to Mafuh Ashari of the Central Jakarta Fire Department, there were no fatalities in the fire and firefighters were still investigating its cause.
Mafuh said that of the 33 fire engines deployed to put out the fire, five were lent by the East Jakarta Fire Department and another five were from the operational assistance unit. "The remaining 23 fire engines belong to the Central Jakarta Fire Department," he said.
Last Saturday, another fire occurred at the Sanggar Betawi Café in Cipayung, East Jakarta, killing three people. (hhr)
