India's Anirban Lahiri sealed a dramatic win at the rain-suspended final round of the 2014 CIMB Niaga Indonesian Masters with a 4-under-par 68 to defeat South Korea's Baek Seuk-hyun by one shot on Sunday.
Lahiri won his fourth Asian Tour title, marked with an eagle at the 18th following double bogeys at the 13th. He carded a total of 17-under-par 271, which earned him US$135,000 in prize money.
'This win is very special for me as it is my first win outside India. I've come close in three previous occasions. This win is important for me to improve my world rankings,' said the player ranked the world's 102nd.
He added that he found it hard to win the tournament after hitting double bogeys at the 13th but his determination to keep giving his best in the remaining holes proved that nothing is impossible.
'My mind was pretty much blank. I just thought that if I can get it to the hole it's in the hole, luckily it turned out well,' said the golfer who will hold his wedding ceremony next week.
Seuk-Hyun, who has resided in Thailand since 2004, held the lead with a total 16-under-par 272 before Lahiri made decisive double eagles at the last hole, leaving the Korean to share second place with Australia's Cameron Smith.
Meanwhile, Asia's legend Thongchai Jaidee of Thailand settled for fifth alongside compatriot Jass Janewattananond, Taipei's Lin Wen Tang and India's SSP Chowrasia.
'It has been a fantastic week for me. I made a good comeback today and I'm very proud of how I played today,' said Thongchai who finished with a 64.
Local player George Gandranata said that he was satisfied with his performance this week despite failing to meet his personal target of getting into the to the top 30.
'It has been a great week really. I obtained my first goal which was to make the cut, but didn't achieve my second goal. My worse round this week was better than my best round last year. I have nothing to complain about,' said George, who finished the final round with 1-under-71, which placed him 44th.
'Hopefully everyone is proud of me. It has been a great tournament and I've gained a lot of experience playing with the elite players from the Asian Tour this week,' said the 28-year-old.
Since turning professional in 2012, George has been playing regularly on the Asian Development Tour (ADT) which he claimed has been a great learning platform to hone his game.
'Playing on the ADT has obviously helped my game a lot. The competition on the ADT is getting better and better. You gain the experience from getting into contention in ADT events which is the closest you get to Asian Tour events. It has been a great learning experience,' said George.
While he is determined to perform well on the premier Asian Tour and the ADT, Gandranata is ready to lend his support to the new domestic tour ' the Professional Golf Tour of Indonesia (PGTI).
'My plan for the remainder of the season is to get into as many Asian Tour events as I can. I will continue to play on the ADT as well as the new domestic tour which I have mentioned earlier. I want to be there for the new tour and give it all the support I can to help it grow,' said George.
