espite being greetedin a friendly way by political parties, especially during political events likethe general election, workers have acknowledged they are pessimistic aboutparties' commitment to represent and struggle for the aspirations of theirconstituents.
Indonesian Migrant Workers Union (SBMI) field coordinator Anis said that workers' anxiousness was reasonable because no parties have presented consistent policies to support the welfare of Indonesian workers so far.
'So far there hasn't been any action or real policies, just empty promises,' Anis said on Thursday in Jakarta, as quoted by tribunnews.com.
Anis went on to say that political parties' real concerns were focused solely on economic growth, without acknowledging the contribution of workers.
'Workers are less protected despite their significant role in the economic chain. The government has done too little in assisting the workers in dealing with their problems,' he said.(fss/dic)
