Former Golkar Party chairman Akbar Tanjung, said that the partyâs decision on its presidential candidate was not yet final
Former Golkar Party chairman Akbar Tanjung, said that the party's decision on its presidential candidate was not yet final.
Akbar explained that the final decision would be made during the party's National Leadership Meeting, as reported by tribunnews.com.
"It will be decided during the meeting," he said at his residence in South Jakarta, on Saturday.
Akbar explained that the entire party had to be involved in the final choice of presidential candidate. It was extremely important to consider all suggestions made by party members, he said.
Golkar deputy chairman, Priyo Budy Santoso also emphasized the need for all factions within the party to be involved in the decision-making process.
"The decision on the presidential candidate must be brought back and agreed upon during the meeting. If there are any other options for vice-presidential candidates or otherwise, then we suggest that the decision be made in the meeting," he said.
Both Priyo and Akbar were among those who had expressed concerns that Aburizal Bakrie's presidential bid would fail due to his low popularity rating and that was why they demanded that the party reevaluate its presidential bid. (fss)
