MY GADGET: Mario Irwinsyah: '€˜A long-running smartphone is all I need'€™

Kapanlagi.com

Actor and TV host Mario Irwinsyah, 31, likes to follow digital trends.

Once a host of a TV show on technology, Mario has earned the basic knowledge to choose the right gadget that suits his needs.

The actor, who stars in the new movie, 3 Nafas Likas (Three Breaths of Likas), prefers a smartphone with a long battery life because he considers the main function of a smartphone is to allow others to reach him at any time '€” mostly by phone calls as well as by text messaging, plus Internet-based instant messaging.

But more than his gadgets, Mario prefers a direct connection '€” face-to-face communication '€” with people, instead of communicating via the Internet. Here are his digital companions.

 Lenovo P780

The five-inch smartphone is a solid choice because with a 4000 mAh battery it'€™s up and running for the whole two days '€” I use it for phone calls, text messaging, social media websites like Path and Twitter, instant messaging like WhatsApp and Line. It also supports sports-related apps like Nike+.

The device is also dual SIM active, so I don'€™t need a secondary cell phone to keep myself accessible, especially for work.

From its 8-megapixel camera to 8-gigabyte internal memory and Android operating system '€” upgradable up to Jelly Bean version, the phone is the perfect package. Android is way better than iOS.

I was once a big fan of the iPhone, but then I changed to Lenovo because with the iPhone I felt like my life was under the device'€™s order '€” whenever I needed it to make phone calls, the battery ran out.

I want to be the master of my gadgets, instead of being controlled by them.

iPad 4

For tablets and laptops, Apple devices make sense for me. I use the 10-inch iPad 4 on a daily basis, mostly to edit photos with Filterstorm and videos with iMovie. However, I'€™m disappointed with this fourth generation because I think the iPad 2 was much better. I decided to sell the iPad 2 because I wanted to get a good price before it started to slump and find a better bargain.

MacBook Pro

I use the 15-inch MacBook Pro for a better view to edit photos and videos '€” both for personal and professional needs. Mine'€™s the one without the retina display feature because I don'€™t need it '€” the feature is more likely suitable for professional photo and video editors.  I only take my MacBook Pro when traveling out of town.
