Gerindra to file report on Prabowo footage

A

lawyer says the Gerindra Party will file a report to thepolice regarding the publication of video footage in which presidentialcandidate Prabowo Subianto is seen apparently hitting a man on the face as theformer enters the  General Elections Commission (KPU) office to registerhimself and Hatta Rajasa as presidential and vice-presidential candidates on Tuesday.

The footage, which lasts less than a minute, has been widely circulated on YouTube.

'€œWe are currently trying to find information about the person who first published the footage and will report it as a slander,'€ Gerindra'€™s lawyer Habiburokhman said as quoted by kompas.com on Friday.

He said the allegation of a violent act by Prabowo was fabricated due to the overcrowded situation in front of the KPU'€™s building.

'€œWe will report it on Saturday. The slanderer could be charged under the 2008 Information Transaction Law for having the intention to spread malicious lies through electronic means,'€ Habiburokhman said.

Prabowo and Hatta Rajasa are the candidate pair supported by Gerindra'€™s coalition, which also involves the Golkar Party, the National Mandate Party (PAN), the United Development Party (PPP) and the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), which garnered a total of 45.3 percent, or 292 out of a total 560 seats at the House of Representatives, in the April 9 legislative election.
