Indonesian Military (TNI) chief Gen. Moeldoko said the country had no intention of procuring an aircraft carrier to strengthen its primary defense system.
'An aircraft carrier is inappropriate for the Indonesian Military's doctrine,' Moeldoko said as quoted by tempo.co on Monday.
Your comments:
Aircraft carriers are effective weapons for attack while we, as a peaceful nation, have no enemies to attack. Besides, Indonesia has hundreds of airstrips and airports, both military and civilian, spread over many islands across the archipelago. If required, new airstrips can be quickly and easily built anywhere on those islands.
For example, during World War II, both Japanese and US marines built airstrips every time they captured an island. In emergencies, our existing airstrips and airports can be easily converted into air bases for military planes.
If necessary, we can also utilize our highways and toll roads in Java and Sumatra as runways for Indonesian Air Force jet fighters.
For example, in the US and Europe, highways for land transportation are designed with potential military uses in mind, for example the interstate I-101 or I-80 in the US or the Autobahn in Europe.
