The Gerindra Party will report the Twitter account holder of @SamadAbraham to the National Police for libel
The Gerindra Party will report the Twitter account holder of @SamadAbraham to the National Police for libel.
The party's lawyer, Mahendradatta, said the account had spread negative information, such as presidential candidate Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo was in danger of being killed.
People were wondering whether the account belonged to Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) chairman Abraham Samad, he added.
'Tweets from this account have even been collected and compiled into a video. It seems more than one person is involved in this,' Mahendradatta said at the Gerindra Media Center on Jl. RM Harsono, Ragunan, South Jakarta, on Sunday, as quoted by Tribunnews.
He further said the video had been uploaded to a website and its link had been made public.
'We consider it a general crime and the perpetrator is allegedly violating Article 29 of the 2008 Information and Electronic Transaction [ITE] Law. We will go to the National Police headquarters to ask whether there has been a police report on this Twitter account. If not, we will file a report with the cybercrime unit at the police's Criminal Detective Directorate [Bareskrim],' Mahendradatta said.
The lawyer said the video would damage the credibility of the KPK instead of Prabowo. He said the KPK - as the icon of corruption eradication - should not be dragged into political matters, as it would damage people's trust in ongoing corruption eradication efforts.
He urged National Police chief Gen. Sutarman to immediately investigate the case, saying the court had the authority to declare whether the account was fake and violated the 2008 ITE Law.
KPK chairman Abraham Samad said as reported by kompas.com that he had filed a report with the National Police on the Twitter account @SamadAbraham that used his name.
The Twitter account has been suspended and can no longer be accessed. (fss/ebf)
