Navy chief of staff Adm. Marsetio dispatched the contingent on Friday in a military ceremony at Tanjung Priok, Jakarta. The contingent, consisting 236 personnel, departed using the Navy's KRI Banda Aceh-593 warship.
The warship has been equipped with two LVT-7 assault amphibious vehicles, a NBO-105 helicopter and a RHIB-impact sea rider.
'Conduct this task as best as you can, maintain the nation's honor, absorb all knowledge that you find there,' Marsetio said to the contingent's commandant, Let. Col. Arief Budiman, as quoted by Antara news agency.
Aside from Indonesia, there are 23 countries slated to take part in RIMPAC this year. Among them are the US, China, Japan, India, South Korea, Canada, Australia, Norway and the Netherlands.
'This will be an arena for us to share knowledge, learn new maritime military doctrines and support interoperability among the navies of different countries,' he said.
