Swiss company will build a monorail in the South Sumatra capital of Palembang to connect Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II International Airport and the Jakabaring area of the city.
South Sumatra administration transportation expert HM Jhonson told Antara news agency on Saturday that the Swiss company had met with South Sumatra Governor Alex Noerdin to discuss the development plan and said it was ready to construct the monorail.
'The firm also says it is ready to follow the project tender,' he said.
The South Sumatra administration had planned to build the monorail, he said, adding that the administration also expected to start construction soon.
The monorail route, according to him, will connect the airport, the Masjid Agung mosque and the Jakabaring area.
There was a chance in the near future that a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the 25-kilometer monorail project would be penned, he said.
