Gerindra to punish disloyal senior members: Hashim

T

he deputy chairman of the GerindraParty's advisory board, Hashim Djojohadikusumo, said his party would impose penaltieson any senior party members who pledged their support to the Joko '€œJokowi'€ Widodoand Jusuf Kalla ticket.

'€œWe already know about a person [who chose to support Jokowi-Kalla]. I think a penalty should be given,'€ said Hashim, without elaborating further, tribunnews.com reported on Friday.

Hashim added that the support meant almost nothing as only one of the party'€™s many senior members had pledged such support.

Recently, the head of the Gerindra Party's defense department, Muhammad Harris Indra, announced his support for Jokowi-Kalla. He praised Jokowi for being someone who had done great things while others only dreamed of doing so.

The Prabowo-Hatta team has been assigned election number '€˜1'€™ on ballot papers for the upcoming presidential election. The pair is supported by the Gerindra Party in coalition with the Golkar Party and three Islamic parties '€” the United Development Party (PPP), the National Mandate Party (PAN) and the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) '€” which could command a total of 45.3 percent, or 292 of a total 560 seats, at the House of Representatives.

Prabowo-Hatta, along with rivals Jokowi-Kalla, signed a declaration of commitment to hold peaceful campaigns in the run-up to the July 9 presidential election, following the commencement of the official campaign period that will run from June 4 to July 5, as set by the General Elections Commission (KPU).
