he Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) said on Wednesday that it was looking into possibility that Forestry Ministry officials were involved in an alleged bribery case surrounding the issuance of permits for nearly 3,000 hectares of protected forest for commercial housing projects in Bogor, West Java.
In the case, the KPK has arrested Bogor Regent Rahmat Yasin for allegedly receiving Rp 1.5 billion (US$127,011) in bribes from an official of PT Bukit Jonggol Asri (BJA), whose 35 percent and 65 percent shares were controlled by PT Bakrieland Development and Property developer PT Sentul City Tbk (BKSL) respectively.
'The [Forestry] Ministry is in charge of protected forests and the regent has no authority relating to protecting forests,' KPK deputy chairman Busyro Muqoddas said on Wednesday, adding that it was possible the KPK would later question ministry officials in its investigation.
