Bank Himpunan Saudara analyst Rully Nova said the domestic currency had improveddue to positive market sentiment following Bank Indonesia's (BI) decision tomaintain the country's benchmark interest rate at the 7.5 percent level.
"The 7.5 percent rate is seen to give good yields for investment in thecountry," Rully said in Jakarta on Thursday as quoted by Antara news agency.
He also said BI predicted the nation's trade balance would be better in thefuture as the global economy recovered, helping the rupiah to strengthen.
"Global economic data from the likes of China shows positive results. We'rehoping that the demand for imported products will increase in China so that itwill affect our exports positively," he added.
Meanwhile, BI's mid-rate data showed rupiah trading at 11,813 per dollar, downfrom the previous 11,803 per dollar. (nfo)
